Retired Alpha Jets Are Finding A New Home

Do you know that retired Alpha Jets are finding new homes? In the early 1960s, the various European air forces started to think about their requirements for the coming decades. Among the results was the development of a new generation of jet trainers to substitute such traditional aircraft as the Fouga Magister and the Lockheed T-33. In this practice, the two chief competitors become the Franco-German Dassault-Dornier “Alpha Jet” and the British Aerospace “Hawk.”

The Hawk would finally be the winner in the race, although the Alpha Jet had been a bit ahead. The Alpha Jet was built in high numbers and served with many air forces for decades. This post provides a description and history of the Alpha Jet and the Argentine”FMA Pampa,” a modest jet trainer with some origins in the Alpha Jet design.

Fly In Style With One Of These Private Jet Companies

Executive private jet airplanes owned by big corporations for executive traveling are in decline. Jets are remarkably expensive alone, and their required aircrews and ground support teams include enormous financial strain on corporations’ budgets.

How they are economical is only when they are used frequently to justify the price of storage and related payroll. Alternatively, many companies are choosing to use private jet firms and charter services.

The Best Trainer Jet Designed in Europe

The early 1950s revealed that committed jet-powered trainers were required to correctly and safely train pilots for jet aircraft. The performance gap between first-generation jets and piston-engine trainers and was just too big to prepare new pilots for the planes they would be flying.

First-generation trainer jets didn’t tend to have committed two-seat versions for type-specific training, and therefore a new pilot’s first flight in a high-performance jet fighter was solo in the early jet era. This resulted in several accidents and unacceptably higher attrition in both trainee and aircraft pilots. Thus the concept of this committed trainer jet was initialized. (more…)

The Public Can Fly In Military Fighter Jets

The government owns military fighter jets, and international laws prohibit the sale of the aircraft to individuals. Military contractors can operate fighter jets but international arms regulations prohibit the sale of operational military planes to private entities.

Private companies are not allowed to use private fighter jets for operational purposes involving weapons. The other issue is the international regulations also prohibit that modification of aircraft with a civil design for military operations. Any such aircraft modified in disguise would not be able to get registered so you cannot fly it.

Blue Angels Don’t Want the Navy’s New Planes. Here’s Why?

The Blue Angels have been a beloved part of American air shows for decades and this is largely due to the speed and aerial acrobatics of the squad’s jets, the F18 Hornet.  This fleet can perform slick maneuvers and precision turns because of their shape, weight, and the pilot’s familiarity with the systems.

If the Navy goes ahead with plans to upgrade the fleet, this could change.  For years now, the Blue Angels have had a strong love affair with the F/A-18 Hornet.

Despite the plane’s increasing age and the wear and tear that has been observed over the years, the Navy’s demonstration team wants to hold onto these planes for as long as possible. (more…)

RAF and French Air Force Pilot’s acheived a double first

Double First

The French and British air forces are right proud of their prized aircraft. Not only are their planes some of the most impressive, technologically advanced machines around, they also own some of the fastest alpha jets available.

It takes a lot of skill, training, and trust to earn the right to fly these jets and those that make it are celebrated for their achievements. It is this prestige that makes the events of 2013 so important. An exchange of pilots took place to that would result in a historic double first.
